While mHealth has applications in developed countries, it has mostly become a field for developing countries in recent years, owing to the rapid growth of mobile phone coverage in low-income countries. As a result, the area primarily arises as a means of expanding access to broader sectors of the population in developing nations, as well as increasing the capacity of those countries' health systems to provide high-quality care. Increased access to healthcare and health-related information (particularly for hard-to-reach populations); improved ability to diagnose and track diseases; timely, more actionable public health information; and expanded access to ongoing medical education and training for health workers are all goals pursued by projects in the mHealth space.
